delivery of the new CIN in Fez

The first national electronic identity card (CNIE), set up by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), was handed over to its bearer on Monday by the Fez police headquarters.

The CNIE, which offers simpler and more secure use in the service of citizens, supports the digitization of the administration and facilitates citizens’ access to the various services. This new generation of CNIE, which respects highly developed criteria aimed at combating all forms of falsification and possible identity theft, is equipped with security elements developed in accordance with international standards in terms of identity documents, the head of the prefectural documentation and identity titles service, Hassan Zakri, told MAP.

The CNIE tends to support the digital vision of development adopted by the Kingdom in the various public and private sectors and to succeed in structuring projects in this area, he added. Zakri said it is now compulsory for anyone aged 16 to apply for their CNIE, instead of 18 years previously, noting that minors also have the right to have their identity card provided their guardian legal form a request to the competent services.

The new card may contain additional and optional information at the request of its holder, such as the telephone number and email address for communication with the interested party in case of necessity, the head of the prefectural service of the documentation and identity titles.

The senior police commissioner also observed that the DGSN has set up an electronic portal to facilitate obtaining this card (www.cnie.ma) allowing citizens to book their appointments to present their requests, complete the form and follow the steps of map development. The manager pointed out that the current national identity card is still valid until the date of its expiration or in the event of a change in any of the data, specifying that the documents requested for obtaining the CNIE are the same as the National Identity Card.

According to the DGSN, the CNIE has the advantage of allowing citizens to prove their identity quickly and securely to public and private bodies or when accessing the services offered by these bodies via the internet, so that no one can complete a transaction in their name even if they have their identity card, noting that the new generation of CNIEs have a PIN code specific to each citizen, delivered with the card.

Citizens wishing to acquire this new generation card can apply to renew their cards even if they are still valid, the same source specifies.
