DEL: Setback for DEG – Munich makes the CHL clear

On Monday evening Schwenningen landed an important victory at north-bottom Krefeld. Düsseldorf missed it at the south-last Nuremberg – Wolfsburg took advantage of it. Meanwhile, Munich made the Champions Hockey League clear in the top game.

In the race for a play-off spot, Düsseldorf suffered a setback on matchday 39. DEG lost out in Nuremberg after a penalty shootout with 5: 6 (1: 0, 3: 4, 1: 1, 0: 1). The Rhinelander turned a 1: 4 into a 5: 4, but Ice Tiger Arturs Kulda made it 5: 5. No goals were scored in the overtime, Nuremberg scored an extra point in the penalty shoot-out thanks to Daniel Schmölz.

That would have done DEG well, Wolfsburg now has three points ahead of the fifth-placed Düsseldorf team in the northern group. Because the grizzlies beat ERC Ingolstadt 6: 3 (1: 0, 2: 1, 3: 2). Anthony Rech and Matti Järvinen each scored twice for Wolfsburg, which is third. In fourth place in the north is Iserlohn, which has played two games less.

In the south, the Schwenninger Wild Wings improved to fourth with a 2: 1 (2: 1, 0: 0, 0: 0) in the beaten north-bottom Krefeld Pinguine.

EHC Red Bull Munich also won the ninth game in a row. In Bremerhaven, the second of the southern group clearly won 6: 1 (1: 1, 3: 0, 2: 0). As the third DEL team next to Eisbären Berlin and Adler Mannheim, the Munich team has a secure place in the upcoming Champions Hockey League. Justin Schütz (5th / 42nd), John Peterka (31st / 58th), Trevor Parkes (30th) and Maximilian Kastner (40th) made the Munich hit. Both clubs had previously qualified for the play-offs.
