It would be the first major sporting event since the outbreak of the corona virus. This week the decision should be made whether Formula 1 can start in Styria in July.
Spielberg is ready for the big coup. If the race course receives approval from the Federal Government for the holding of the Grand Prix this week in compliance with all corona measures, Austria will immediately transform itself into the epicenter of the sports world. Then the season opener of Formula 1, the billion-dollar racing series that has been making its mark globally since 1950, increases in Styria. Austria would come into focus because the TV pictures of “Formula One Management” could be seen worldwide. The first race (after ten canceled or postponed) guarantees record rates and gigantic advertising values. But it also starts with a touch of irony: With Rudolf Anschober and Werner Kogler, two green politicians would give motorsport the green light.
It would undoubtedly be a stimulus for sport, the economy, the job market and tourism after the standstill in the crisis. With two planned races – on July 5th and 12th – Dietrich Mateschitz and his Red Bull group expect a jackpot. The company, which strives for maximum attention and sales figures, operates the racetrack and the project, the thread of which draws consultant and ex-racing driver Helmut Marko. It is sport, even anachronistic Formula 1 is. But for donors, it is and will always be a business.
