Danish league-leader FC Midtjylland wants to welcome fans with ‘drive-in football’ | NOW

Danish club FC Midtjylland has come up with a creative plan to welcome supporters when games are played without an audience. Fans will be invited to watch their club on the big screens in their car around the stadium.

The huge parking lot around the MCH Arena, the stadium of FC Midtjylland, can accommodate two thousand cars. Thousands of supporters can then follow the so-called ‘drive-in football’ on large screens.

FC Midtjylland leads in the Danish Superligaen, which was shut down on March 10 due to the outbreak of the corona virus. The Herning club is twelve points ahead of number two FC Copenhagen and is close to the third league title.

Because there is a good chance that no audience will be present during a resumption of competition, FC Midtjylland wants to give something back to its fans with the ‘drive-in football’. “We always want to offer them the best football experience, even the corona virus cannot change that,” the club said on its website.

FC Midtjylland is currently in consultation with the police and the municipality in Herning to ensure safety. It is still unclear if and when the competition will resume in Denmark. However, the Danish clubs resumed training under precautions at the end of March.
