Debunking the Myth: The Dangers of Unani Treatment and the Death of Director Siddique

Reacting to the death of director Siddique, IMA state president Dr. Zulfi Nuhu. He wrote on Facebook that Unani treatment is just a superstition and there are reports that Siddique was taking some Unani medicine regularly and it is science that heavy metals present in many Unani medicines can damage the liver and kidneys. The full text of the note reads:

‘That is not science! Regarding the death of director Siddique. Unani treatment is just a myth. It is a superstition. Not the scientific method of treatment. It is almost as if the discussion of myth, science and faith has stopped. Let it remain so. That is good for Kerala. But the science, myth, and faith in the field of treatment must be continually and vigorously debated. That is good for the health of many. There are reports that director Siddique was continuously taking some unani medicine. Heavy metals present in many Unani medicines are scientifically proven to damage the liver and kidneys. It is not a myth. Proved through a hundred thousand studies. Tribute to Mr. Siddique who became a nom not only for Palnilav but for an entire generation.

The doctor also points out that accidental deaths caused by believing in such myths are a continuing story in Kerala.
