Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan production companies joined the case

Some of Bollywood’s biggest production companies have filed a lawsuit against “irresponsible reporting” of some Indian media.
–
This comes on the heels of the death of Bollywood superstar Sushant Singh Rajput last June.

Rajput is believed to have committed suicide, but the case sparked speculation in news channels for months. Dozens of companies took legal action as a result.

According to the lawsuit, “the livelihoods of people associated with Bollywood have been severely affected by the smear campaign.”

Thirty-four production companies and four consortia linked to the film industry have joined the case against two Indian media channels and four broadcasters who have not yet responded to the allegations.

According to the lawsuit, “the privacy of Bollywood members is invaded, and their reputations are irreparably damaged by portraying all of Bollywood’s characters as criminals … and making being part of Bollywood synonymous with criminal acts in the public imagination.”

Rajput, 34, was found dead in his Mumbai apartment on June 14. Police said at the time that he had committed suicide.

However, his family later filed a police report against his girlfriend, Ria Chakraborty, accusing her of inciting suicide and other crimes, charges they all denied.

Since then, a number of Bollywood stars, including actress Deepika Padukone, have faced interrogation as part of the investigation into Rajput’s death – although none of them have been charged with wrongdoing.

The case is now being investigated by three federal agencies.
