Death of a 64-year-old man brings the total number of deaths from COVID-19 to 127 in Puerto Rico



The death of a 64-year-old man from the Ponce region brought the total death toll to 127 this Saturday COVID-19 in Puerto Rico, according to the most recent report of the Health Department.

The death was reported by the agency’s Surveillance System, so the death is confirmed as a fatality due to the new coronavirus. The Demographic Registry did not report deaths certified by clinical criteria.

The total deaths translate into 61 cases reported by the Surveillance System and 66 through the Demographic Registry.

Meanwhile, the number of infections confirmed by Health rose to 3,100 cases, which translates into 70 additional cases to yesterday’s figure that corresponded to 3,030.

“By way of prevention, compliance with precautionary and protective measures to prevent the spread of the virus on the island is reiterated. This includes, but is not limited to, the practice of social distancing, the compulsive use of masks and washing , or frequent use of hand sanitizers, “the agency said in a press release.

Of the total of new positive cases, nine were obtained by molecular tests, so the total of unique positive results reported under this variable is 1,230. Meanwhile, the results of (rapid) serological tests total 1,870, after registering 61 new unique cases positive to said test.

Meanwhile, the universe of unique confirmed cases is broken down into 1,574 that correspond to women and 1,526 to men.

Salud did not offer in its report today an updated number of the number of COVID-19 tests carried out on the island. However, yesterday afternoon the agency reported that, until May 19, the total number of tests including serological and molecular tests amounted to 89,430.

On the other hand, the sum of 10 new patients hospitalized with the disease increased the total to 106. Meanwhile, there are 14 patients in the Intensive Care Unit, which translates into two new patients unlike yesterday.

The number of patients connected to an artificial respirator was reduced to five, one patient less than yesterday.

At the municipal level, Culebra remains the only city hall with no reported cases of the disease. Meanwhile, San Juan remains the town with the highest number of positives (450), followed by Bayamón (200), Guaynabo (168) and Carolina (130).

The age group with the highest incidence corresponds to those between 50 to 59 years of age with a total of 641 confirmed single cases. This age range is followed by patients between 40 and 49 years old (563) and 30 to 39 years old (494).
