Many minks that were culled in Denmark because of a mutated variant of the coronavirus came above the ground the day after their burial. The mass graves are said to be too shallow, causing gases released during the decomposition to push the bodies above the ground.
Danish media share images of Holstebro, located in the north, where several dead minks had emerged on a military site. According to the media, the mass grave is 1 meter deep, while the Danish Ministry of Agriculture and Environment assumed it was almost 2 meters.
Officers would have tried in vain to solve the problem by pouring more earth on the bodies, a police spokesperson tells. DR. Mass graves with a depth of about 2.5 meters have now been created.
The new graves are currently under surveillance. In the long term, the police want to fence off the site to prevent other animals from contracting infections. “That chance is small, but there is because bacteria can still live in the fur of the dead mink”, quotes DR.
At least 200 Danes came into contact with a mutated variant
