De Skulp Friesland is starting with the concept of positive health

FRYSLAN – De Skulp Friesland will work with the concept of positive health. The foundation, with centers for life with and after cancer in Heerenveen, Drachten, Sneek and Leeuwarden, can therefore better help people with cancer regain their resilience.

This is possible thanks to a grant from Stichting De Friesland of € 41,303 and from the Oranjefonds of € 6,900 for a three-year project.

Annie Adema and Anneke Jonker are volunteer coordinators at De Skulp Friesland, where weekly cancer guests can go for psychosocial care, as well as partners, relatives and friends. They come to De Skulp to listen, relax, contact other sick people and support.

Better in your own skin

“Cancer often makes people live more consciously,” say Annie Adema and Anneke Jonker, “and positive health helps people discover what they need and what they need. Having the other conversation, they get more information. We notice that they regain their resilience and feel better about themselves. Over the next three years we want to implement positive health within De Skulp Friesland. This means that hostesses and gentlemen will be trained in this, our offer will be expanded, we will be open for several days and we will make contact with partners who can support us in this and work with us ”.

Coordinators guide this process and will do their best to inform as many people as possible about positive health.

own direction

Annie and Anneke: ,, We see De Skulp Friesland as a permanent place in the path of cancer care. Informal care, which we fall into, can be a good addition to regular care. We hear from our guests that they often fall into a hole after treatments and are still looking for something “different”. Using the 6 dimensions of positive health care, we have a tool to support people in this. It is important to “have your own direction” of the host. If necessary, we will also deploy professionals with the aim of including psychological assistance within De Skulp as part of the cancer treatment in the 4 hospitals in Friesland. “

Better quality

De Skulp offers activities in the field of relaxation such as yoga, massages and mindfulness; creative activities; exercises such as walking, dancing, and playing sports; support in daily functioning and better quality of life; and lectures are given on nutrition, meaning, bereavement and loss.

There are currently more than 800,000 people living with or after cancer, with 1.4 million expected by 2030. Together with the KWF and the umbrella organization IPSO, Skulp Friesland is working to provide high quality and accessible care for all. those who are cancer patients. Due to increasing pressure on care providers, the centers are seeing more and more people being referred to De Skulp.
