The Clinic opens a Gilead exhibition on breast cancer combining art and technology

BARCELONA, 23 (EUROPA PRESS)

The Hospital Clínic de Barcelona has presented this Thursday an exhibition promoted by Gilead to raise awareness about metastatic triple negative breast cancer, and which combines art with data visualization, artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics.

‘Pictures with Hope’ reflects through AI how this aggressive subtype of breast cancer (CMTNm) impacts patients and to what extent research and innovation are important, the organizers report in a statement.

With the help of new technologies, nine works reflect the three emotional stages (diagnosis, acceptance, future) of three patients, emphasizing the emotional impact of knowing that they might have options and how these might help them. to change the perspective on the disease.

The director of the Clinic, Josep Maria Campistol; the senior BUD Oncology at Gilead, David Marín; the oncologist María Vidal and the president of the Metastatic Breast Cancer Association, Pilar Fernández, who have agreed to highlight research and innovation for patients with a very complicated prognosis.

mTNCC is a little-known disease and the most aggressive and difficult to treat subtype of breast carcinoma: it has no cure, the available therapeutic alternatives are limited, it affects some 5,000 women in Spain each year and only 12% survive 5 years.

NEXT AUCTION OF ARTISTS

The exhibition promoted by Gilead (with the endorsement of Solti and the Metastatic Breast Cancer Association, in addition to the support of Seom) can be visited at the Oncology Day Hospital Hall until the end of summer (it has already passed through other cities, such as Valencia and Madrid).

In a second phase of this initiative and in front of the paintings made with AI, Spanish artists will create works inspired by the testimonies of the three patients and later they will be auctioned to finance a research project on CMTNm.

DOCTORS AND PATIENTS

David Marín (Gilead) has stated that mTNCC is the subtype with the worst prognosis of all breast cancers, “where there is no pink ribbon” and that Gilead is working to develop innovations.

The oncologist María Vidal (Clínic) has said that the triple negative is defined “by what it does not have: it does not have an estrogen receptor, nor progesterone nor HER2; and does not respond to low-toxic treatments.

The patient Pilar Fernández has considered that the metastatic triple negative is “the great forgotten within the social discourse of breast cancer”, that this advanced stage of the disease must be made known and that patients depend on progress in research.
