Dave De Kock writes a letter to his mother from cell: “Romy can’t do anything about it”

Dave De Kock, the main suspect in the murder of Dean Verberckmoes (4), has written a letter to his family from prison. That writes Het Laatste Nieuws. In that letter, he claims that his girlfriend is completely innocent of the toddler’s death.

With the letter, De Kock first contacted his family in Meerdonk. In it he writes that he “shouldn’t have contact with anyone”, about practical concerns, and about himself (“I have to say that I have a hard time being so cut off from everyone. I cry myself to sleep every night. I pray every day for everyone and myself for a happy ending, if that is even possible.”).

De Kock pays most attention to his girlfriend Romy W. (25), who has been in prison in Ghent since Dean’s death. According to De Kock unjustified. “I miss you all, but I also miss Romy hardt”, it sounds. “I heard she was arrested and it hurts me a lot. She can’t do anything about it. She has lost everything because of me.”

It is not clear what role W. played in the toddler’s death. In the days after De Kock’s disappearance with Dean, she lied to the child’s grandparents about his whereabouts, and she also failed to show full cooperation to the police. The woman maintains her innocence: she filed an appeal against the extension of her detention, the Chamber of Indictment will decide on Thursday.
