Data center for the Frankfurt/Rhine-Main metropolitan region enters the planning phase

Süwag Energie AG, DC-Datacenter-Group GmbH and noris network AG are planning to build a jointly operated data center in the Frankfurt/Rhine-Main metropolitan region.

The new data center will offer colocation and IT services. The participation of the three partners in the company yet to be founded is to be equal.

The construction of the new FRA1 data center in Hofheim-Marxheim with around 11,000 square meters of land area follows the increasing demand for highly available and secure as well as energy-efficient data centers and professional IT services in the Rhine-Main metropolitan region in Germany as a business location. In the final stage, the data center should achieve a connection capacity of 30 megavolt amperes and go into operation in 2025. In addition to providing IT space, the three partners plan to offer hardware-related IT services and other professional IT services. Each of the companies will contribute its respective know-how from the data center business – from the planning to the operation and sales phase. All those involved benefit from the respective expertise of the other partners.

Ecological sustainability is already taken into account in the planning of the highly available and energy-efficient data center so that the project can make a contribution to the energy transition. For example, the use of waste heat for a local heating network is planned, as are energy services for the network and the design of emergency power generators for synthetic fuels.
For the companies involved, the planned joint venture represents an opportunity to offer customers a new data center location and IT services from the Rhine-Main region.

board member dr. Markus Coenen from the regional energy supplier Süwag, Frankfurt am Main, justifies the commitment with an increasing need for data centers in Germany: “The Rhine-Main metropolitan region is the European center for digital infrastructures. With the planned construction and operation of a state-of-the-art and sustainable data center together with two established partner companies, Süwag wants to expand its range of services in the area of digitization and sustainability and at the same time create the conditions for additional value creation in the region”.

Ralf Siefen, founder and CEO of the DC Datacenter Group, Wallmenroth, comments on the initiative as follows: “Modern future-oriented applications, sophisticated communication infrastructures and operational and emergency concepts place special demands on the planning of data centers. We look forward to the groundbreaking ceremony and to once again being able to demonstrate our many years of know-how in the development, planning and construction of efficient, sustainable data centers certified according to the latest standards.”

Florian Sippel, COO at noris network, also emphasizes the synergy effects: “After more than 25 years with noris network, I am happy to be able to build and operate a data center in the Rhine-Main area together with two strong partners from Germany. The planned construction of the data center in the Rhine-Main area is the logical consequence of the ongoing success with our highly secure and highly available data centers in Nuremberg, Munich and Hof and also enables us to offer cloud and IT services in the Rhine-Main area .”
