American actor Dave Prowse, who played Darth Vader in the original Star Warstrilogy, passed away at the age of 85, the BBC Sunday.
The British actor has died after a short illness. The former bodybuilder was best known for his role as Darth Vader in the first three parts of the Star Wars-films.
Prowse was cast as Vader due to his large physique. However, because of his British accent, Vader’s voice was spoken by someone else, the actor James Earl Jones.
About two meters tall Prowse was a bodybuilder and weightlifter until he played his first role in a James Bond film in 1967. Prowse was Frankenstein’s Creature in the movie Casino Royale. He also returned as Frankenstein in other films.
Prowse has also appeared in series such as Space 1999 in Doctor Who.
