Daniel Ricciardo: “Racing F1 at Mugello would be insane!”

Renault driver Daniel Ricciardo believes that driving a 2020 Formula 1 car at Mugello would be ‘insane’ on the Italian circuit to hold a Grand Prix this season. The Ferrari circuit, located north of Florence, will secure a place on the renewed 2020 F1 calendar with a likely spot after the Italian Grand Prix at Monza.

Ricciardo tested on the track for Toro Rosso in 2012, but believes the extra grip of a 2020 car would be a step forward even from that performance level.

Agitated

The Australian says he is excited about the possibility of a Grand Prix on circuits such as Mugello, and recalled racing there in 2007 in Italian Formula Renault, where he finished twice twice.

“The first track I heard in the rumor mill was Mugello, which was the first track I drove in 2007, and it was my favorite track that season,” said Ricciardo when asked about the possibility of more Western European circuits would be on the calendar.

“I loved the smooth, fast corners and think it would be great in an F1 car. We had a test there in 2012 with Toro Rosso, but the 2020 cars on this track would be really insane and cool. I’m definitely excited if we were to race here. “
