The number of infections with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus continues to rise worldwide. In this country, too, more people are now infected with the new type of pathogen than a few weeks ago. The increase can be attributed to people returning from traveling, but also to an increasing disregard for protective measures.

Corona rules would have to be adhered to

According to a new analysis by Barmer, sick leave due to a COVID-19 infection in young people has risen significantly again in recent weeks. Accordingly, within four weeks (from June 21 to July 18) the number of cases in the group of up to 39 year olds rose by 31 percent, from 744 to 978 Barmer insured persons.

“The corona pandemic is by no means over. On the contrary, the danger of a second wave is obviously building up more and more. If the distance and hygiene rules are increasingly disregarded, human life can be endangered ”, explains the chairman of the Barmer, Prof. Dr. Christoph Straub, in one Message.

As the health insurance company writes, younger people in particular have to increasingly adhere to the Corona rules, because the number of cases in the group from 40 years of age has remained almost constant. In the same period of time, these rose from 1,942 Barmer insured persons on sick leave by one percent to 1,964 affected persons.

According to the information, there were most corona sick leave across all age groups in the 29th calendar week in North Rhine-Westphalia with 727 people affected and in Bavaria with 607 people.

Increase especially in the south

According to the results of the evaluation, the total number of corona sick leave has developed very differently from region to region. The largest increase across all age groups from the 26th to the 29th calendar week was recorded in Baden-Württemberg with an increase of 33 percent from 240 to 318 Barmer insured persons on sick leave.

This was followed by Schleswig-Holstein with an increase of 31 percent (from 54 to 71 people affected) and Bavaria with 28 percent (from 475 to 607 people on sick leave). In Brandenburg (minus 18 percent) and Saxony (minus ten percent), however, the number of cases fell significantly. In North Rhine-Westphalia there was also a slight decrease of five percent, from 765 to 727 patients.

“There are many reasons for differences in regional infection rates. It is all the more important to counter the increasing carelessness with targeted information and to continue to be very careful, ”said Straub. (ad)
