Damaged roofs, felled trees … Follow the Dennis storm in Belgium

Average winds of nine Beaufort were measured, Sunday morning, over the North Sea, off the Belgian coast. Storm Dennis so now hit Belgium, says meteorologist David Dehenauw of the Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium (IRM).

The winds must reach nine Beaufort so that we can officially speak of a storm.

Hainaut

The Mons rescue zone signals a relatively calm situation. The trees likely to fall were already on the ground following the passage of the Ciara storm last Sunday.

Nothing serious in Charleroi either for now. About ten interventions have been reported to us.

Walloon Brabant

The Brabant firefighters have already recorded more than a hundred calls on Sunday morning since the arrival of storm Dennis, we learned from the Nivelles center in the rescue zone, especially in Wavre. Trees or branches cluttering the roads as well as tiles and various objects taken off constitute the main interventions.

Firefighters from all over Walloon Brabant have been mobilized since Sunday around 8 am because of strong gusts which blow over the province. “We have already been asked to carry out between 100 and 200 missions“said a dispatcher from the Brabant area shortly before 11 am.

In eastern Brabant and Nivelles, the number of requests is smaller. “Tubize and Braine-l’Alleud positions are less used for the moment“, we conclude at the central emergency zone.

Daniel Jonas, manager of power stations 112 and 1722 in Walloon Brabant and Hainaut, explains that a reinforced team has been put in place to take any calls: 18 people in total are at their posts.

Namur

About fifty interventions in the Namur region, mainly in Namur, Andenne and Gembloux. These are mainly damaged roofs.

An accident occurred on the N4 roadway in Natoye (Ohey). A tree fell on a car. Traffic is complicated while waiting for the police to arrive.

Cork

The situation remains calm for the moment. The Batte market is going smoothly and the aerodrome of Spa is operating normally.

luxembourg

In the province of Luxembourg, firefighters have intervened fifteen times since the night of Saturday to Sunday due to falling trees and branches linked to high winds. The rescue zone was still on the job Sunday morning. A road had to be closed to traffic between Hotton and Érezée.

Sunday morning, the rescue zone reported about fifteen interventions since 3:20 am, mainly in the north-central part of the province. The bad weather notably led to the closure of the N807 between Hotton and Soy. “Falling trees repeatedly put firefighters in danger“, Jacques Chaplier, bourgmestre of Hotton said on Sunday morning.”The clearance work had to be interrupted. The national will remain closed to traffic until Monday“Deviations are set up, either via Ny, or via Menil, Hampteau and Werpin.

Brussels

Brussels firefighters tell us that they have set up a special device and the parks have been closed. Since midnight, 27 interventions have been carried out on the side of the capital. Two of them concerned trees on the public highway, the other 25 for various objects. Firefighters are currently working on 14 interventions, but no additional incidents have been reported to date.
