Dallas, Tx- A driver was arrested and is awaiting charges after being accused of running over a Dallas police officer who later died.

The 32-year-old suspect was driving northbound on Interstate 75 around 1:45 a.m. Saturday.

Meanwhile, the officer was assisting in a vehicle accident and was standing to the side of his vehicle when the suspect ran him over.

The uniformed man was taken to Baylor Medical Center where he later died.

Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia shared a video on his Twitter account showing several officers saluting as the officer’s body is transferred from the hospital.

For now, the authorities have not released the identity of the officer or the man arrested.
