Daile Theater plans to invest up to three million euros in the reconstruction works and technical equipment of the Small Hall and Rehearsal Hall, Juris Žagars, a member of the Board of Daile Theater, told reporters at a press conference today.

Architect Reinis Liepiņš emphasized that the Daile Theater building is one of the most impressive and technically accurate masterpieces of modernist architecture. He said that the small hall of the theater was originally intended as a rehearsal hall, but since the beginning of the theater, it has been used to show performances.
Liepiņš emphasized that the middle part of the building will be rebuilt and the architecture of the building will not be changed. In addition, the Small Hall will have not only 370 seats, but also a balcony. It is also planned to build a new “black-box” hall, where both rehearsals and performances will take place.
“We do not change the authenticity and do not touch the load-bearing structures. We are transforming this building according to the theoretical basis of restoration, ie we carry out the so-called gentle restoration without changing the character and details of the building,” said the architect.
Liepiņš pointed out that in parallel with the reconstruction of the Small Hall and the Rehearsal Hall, other reconstruction works will be performed, as there are places in the theater where it is necessary to improve the technical condition, for example, to create a smoke extraction system, which is not currently available.
Construction work on the theater is planned to start in the autumn of this year, completing the reconstruction of the Small Hall in 2022.
