Dad is lying on the IC with corona, mom in hospital: ‘Suddenly your parents are gone’ | Coronavirus

Lucas (17): “Suddenly your parents are gone. If you are questioned by your brother, you have to provide your own breakfast and keep the house clean. ”
Emma (14): ,, If your parents go on vacation for two weeks, don’t worry. Then you have fun, order food, invite people. But we were in quarantine and you were sick in the hospital. ”
Lucas: “The groceries were delivered by the neighbors.”
Emma: ,, We were constantly under stress. The first days we also had no clarity about what it was. We had zero contact with my father. The first contact was only made when I was able to visit. And the first contact was when you woke up again. ”
Philip (57): ,, That was a month later. It already started traumatically. There was not a moment: it is not too bad. They lifted me down the stairs, where I had more or less passed out. ”

It is March when Philip Reedijk and his wife Tracy Hamill (54) are simultaneously transported from their street in Rotterdam’s Prins Alexander district by two ambulances. Philip has been in ICU for nearly five weeks with multi-organ failure. First in the IJsselland Hospital in Capelle aan den IJssel, then in Rotterdam’s Erasmus MC. In the end, he doesn’t come home until nine weeks later, Tracy after ten days.

What I really like is that the children put their heads together and kept going. That still makes me emotional

The ambulances have not yet left the street or neighbors are offering all their help. In the meantime, Grandma Elizabeth keeps in touch with the doctors. The rest of the family is kept informed via group apps. Now the family is together again on the sofa in the living room. Thomas, the oldest and now 19 years old, has recently started living in rooms in Eindhoven. Tracy: ,, He doubted whether he would leave home. I said do it right. ”
