Madness! While the Hamburg Towers were still playing against relegation in their first season, they have repeatedly set club records in the current Bundesliga round: Pedro Calles’ team won 90:61 (46:31) against Würzburg with no chances – and for the first time won two BBL Wins in a row.
Würzburg coach Denis Wucherer was only confused after the final whistle. An interview? That was out of the question at first, not after the debacle: His team lost a record 22 balls – the Towers, on the other hand, only lost nine. The worst fears, also from Coach Wucherer himself, that Würzburg will play against relegation this season after their top performers have left – they seem to be coming true.

And the towers? In the second game of the season they showed themselves to be particularly strong as a team: With Pedro Calles’ philosophy in mind, the Hamburg team made the game wide, hit hard from outside and let the ball run well.
Jordan Swing, who was allowed to start for the injured Justus Hollatz, shot with a high percentage (14 points, 50 percent quota of three), TJ Shorts played the Würzburg defense dizzy and Hans Brase made his debut. Veteran Bryce Taylor made his first points for the Towers, youngster Jürgen Rich (22) his first ever in the Bundesliga.
In defense, the Towers wore down overburdened Würzburgers, who almost exclusively tried unsuccessful individual actions, and forced them to a miserable throw rate. Kameron Taylor, top scorer of the game with 19 points, proved himself to be a ball thief and got the most steals (four).

“We always want to be the more aggressive team from the start,” said Maik Kotsar (14 points, seven rebounds) after winning the away game. “We succeeded.”
Hamburg Towers: Highest BBL victory in the club’s history
The 90:61 against s.Oliver Würzburg marked the highest BBL victory in Towers history. Only against Trier in Pro A was it clearer in 2018: At that time, the towers had swept the Rhinelander out of their own hall with 108: 62.
