Three cyclists who rode on the Oosterscheldekering in Zeeland during the storm on Thursday, spontaneously qualified for the NK Tegenwindficycles. The organization gave the cyclists a Golden Ticket for the next edition, after they had completed the 8.4 kilometer route with wind force 9 against.
Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., the three cyclists unsuspectingly passed the invisible start line, where the NK course usually starts once a year. There was someone from the organization to wish them success. They were clocked at the finish.
“We want the thickest and strongest calves at the start, so we used this Thursday to see if there are still real knights at unofficial moments like today,” says organizer Robrecht Stoekenbroek. “We were not disappointed!” Incidentally, one of the cyclists was riding a racing bike, which is not allowed during the NK. The participants have to ride a normal bicycle without gears.
The seventh edition of the NK Against Wind Bikes can be announced from autumn and will only take place at wind force 7 or higher. Registration started on Thursday. The last edition was interrupted prematurely in February last year, because it was too windy.
