Stratospheric race the one that closes the 2021 European Championship in Trento. To triumph is a monumental Sonny Colbrelli, quick to mock Remco Evenepoel in the sprint after having resisted, in the last lap, the numerous attacks of the Belgian phenomenon. Third was a positive Cosnefroy, who broke away from the decisive action of the race a few kilometers from the end, due to the inhuman pace imposed by the Flemish. Trentin closes fourth, completing the success of the Azzurri, who find the fourth consecutive continental title.

A splendid race today, with attempts and attacks from the first kilometers. France and Spain very active in the early hours of the race, with numerous attempts by the transalpines who immediately made the race very hard. Italy has never moved in an obvious way, remaining in the first positions of the group and placing Bagioli first and then Ulissi in the various escapes, disengaging from the burdens of the platoon.

After an attack by Matteo Trentin, the action that started 45 kilometers from the race was decisive. All the big names left, with Evenepoel, Pogacar, Cosnefroy, Colbrelli, Trentin and Sivakov who found themselves leading the race. The nine immediately gained a considerable margin, before Evenepoel’s second attack, who in the penultimate lap on the final circuit, with a shot, made the void.
Colbrelli and Cosnefroy were the only ones to go after him, with the French who, however, broke away 10 kilometers from the end under the blows of the infernal pace imposed by the Belgian. Colbrelli, on the other hand, managed to resist in the hardest stretch and to arrive at the wheel of Evenepoel at the last kilometer. His sprint was perfect, with the Belgian sinning from inexperience and being overtaken at the last corner. From then on the blue attacked and never looked back. His perfect season is now complete, the dream is achieved. Sonny Colbrelli is the new European champion!
