Final: PSG waves goodbye to club icon Verratti and receives tens of millions

Marco Verratti has finally left Paris Saint-Germain behind, the club announced on Wednesday. The Italian has signed a multi-year contract in Qatar with Al-Arabi. According to transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, among others, the Qataris will transfer 45 million euros to PSG. Al-Arabi can now still complete this transfer, as the transfer window in Qatar is open until Monday, September 18.
Verratti’s departure marks the end of his stay in Paris after eleven years. The thirty-year-old midfielder came over in the summer of 2012 from the Italian Pescara, which was allowed to transfer around ten million euros at the time. Verratti played more than 400 games for PSG and won numerous trophies. He became champion of France nine times, won the Coupe de France six times, captured the Coupe de la Ligue six times and the French Super Cup nine times. The only thing missing from the list is the Champions League so coveted by PSG.

At Al-Arabi, Verratti is reunited with Abdou Diallo, with whom he previously played in Paris. The 27-year-old defender left PSG in mid-August and has since played his matches in the Qatar Stars League. Al-Arabi also includes former FC Barcelona talent Rafinha and ex-Feyenoorder Mohamed Taabouni, both of whom will compete with Verratti for a spot in the midfield of the current number six of the Qatari competition.
Due to his transfer, Verratti has not yet played for PSG this season. He did participate in the preparation, but has not yet played an official match on behalf of the Parisians, who said goodbye to a lot of players this summer. Lionel Messi, Neymar, Sergio Ramos, Neymar, Renato Sanches and Georginio Wijnaldum, among others, left PSG in the last transfer period.
