Cycle tourism had a direct impact on the Italian economy of over 5.5 billion euros in 2023, in growth of 35% on 2022 and 19% on 2019 (4.6 billion).
This was revealed by the 4th edition of the “Traveling with the bike 2024” report, created by Isnart e Legambiente in collaboration with Bikenomistand presented in the last few hours at Cycle tourism fair a Bologna.
According to the Observatory on the Tourism Economy of Chambers of Commerce, the cycle tourist spends on average 95 euros per day on the purchase of goods and services. An amount which for foreigners rises to 104.5 euros, compared to an average daily expenditure of tourists in our country of 59.6 euros each.
The cycling tourist in Italy in the summer of 2023 was predominantly a Millennial (47%, +10% on 2022), with a medium-high level of education. Has a profession (86%, +7.5% of the total number of tourists) and declares a medium (52%) or medium-high (24%) income. Cycle tourists in Italy travel in the company of: their partner (41%), family (26.7%) or friends (17%).
Above all, he is a “transversal” tourist for whom the use of the bicycle acts as a “glue” between varied tourist interests and motivations: from visits to the artistic-monumental heritage (37%), to immersion in the naturalistic one (36.4% ), from food and wine experiences (24%) to those oriented towards wellbeing in a broad sense (8%).
