Culture provides a replacement

The Vienna State Opera shows an opera or ballet performance every evening – but online and not in the Haus am Ring.

In view of the strict restrictions on event operations and travel, you open your livestream archive and in future you will be shown daily recordings of previous opera and ballet performances – worldwide and free of charge.

“With a few exceptions, this online program can even follow the originally planned schedule,” it said from the State Opera. Between March 15th and 28th, the complete Wagner tetralogy in the production of Sven-Eric Bechtolf would have been shown one last time at Haus am Ring. It started on Saturday with Richard Wagner’s “Das Rheingold” – however in the performance on January 10, 2016.

You can see the stream on www.staatsoperlive.com. After registering on the website, the subscription can be booked free of charge until further notice. On March 18th you can see “Die Walküre”, on 20th “Tosca” and on April 2nd “Peer Gynt”.

Other artists also offer culture online: the cabaret artist and author Severin Groebner, for example, tells a story on YouTube every day under the title “Dekamerone2020”. The cabaret artist couple Gerold Rudle & Monica Weinzettl also pass the time on YouTube, turn their living room into a stage and start the video series “Alone at home”. The online theater magazine nachtkrik.de started streaming games on the weekend.
