Assessment passes to four infected people in Quebec

The CIUSSS de la Capitale-Nationale revealed on Sunday afternoon that four people infected with COVID-19 were currently in solitary confinement in the Quebec region. These are the first confirmed cases in the territory since the start of the pandemic.

All four are “young adults”, that is, between the ages of 18 and 65. They have all traveled to Europe or the United States recently and are not currently hospitalized. Two of them are residents of the Capitale-Nationale and the other two are tourists who have stayed in the territory during their contagion period.

“All the people identified as close contact with the infected individuals have been reached and are also currently in solitary confinement. Those with symptoms have been tested, “said Dr François Desbiens, regional director of public health for the Capitale-Nationale, during a press briefing.

According to an epidemiological public health survey, the four patients have all caught the virus outside the region. There is therefore no contamination from the Capitale-Nationale at this time.

The Newspaper learned that one of these infected visitors would be a European athlete who is currently confined to a room at the Delta Hotel in Quebec.

Internal communication from the establishment indicates that this is a “confirmed case” and that staff should not enter or contact their rooms. Hotel management declined to comment, however.

The situation remains unchanged in Chaudière-Appalaches when only one case was confirmed last Thursday.

Since the installation of the clinic designated for COVID-19 at the University Institute in mental health of Quebec, on March 11, nearly 400 samples have been taken. So far, there are 99 negative and four positive results.

“Currently there are about 80 samples taken per day, but we plan to triple the clinic’s capacity by the end of the week. We will then be able to perform more than 200 per day, “said CIUSSS deputy director of general health services, Serge Garneau.

A new “car sample” clinic should also be set up shortly in the northern crown of Quebec. This will add another 100 samples a day for people who suffer from symptoms related to the coronavirus.
