“I turn the car and go out to look. 9 tall rectangular panels. 6 of them contain information about the past of the Steaua-Grivița neighborhood, the factory and park of Textila, the Elias hospital and the Domenii rooms, the social housing for the Cepherist workers of the interwar period (I also live in one of them) They can be read, if possible, for those interested in the urban history of Bucharest.
But on 3 of them, also bearing the “Parinți de Cireșari” coat of arms, Ion Mihai Pacepa, Eugen Barbu and Ștefan Foriș are displayed. It shows, because they are not documented at all, relevant biographies of these characters. The individual has been leading Ceaușescu’s propaganda program in the West for years, also being the lackey in charge of buying luxury goods from the West for Elena Ceaușescu. He is a deserter in a general’s uniform, a traitor to Security who has served zealously for decades and is rewarded accordingly. What is this, a “cherry parent”, that children can see on the fence?
Next, Eugen Barbu appears. Mentioned as the author of the novel Groapa, after which the connection with the Groapa of Ouatu and its rehabilitation is established. Not a word about Barbu being the author of Ceaușescu’s National Socialist propaganda, fiercely anti-Western and spokesperson for Security.
The highlight, however, is the panel with Ștefan Foriș. Character very little known to the general public, general secretary of the PCR, killed with a chainsaw by his communists. So it is written: “Ștefan Foriș – politics with a crowbar”. What do children have to do with this dark Bolshevik, what should they understand from his presence in their park? Take him as a spiritual father?
