Cruzeiro pays debt for Arrascaeta and begins to solve punishment

THE cruise took a big step to end the FIFA punishment that prevents him from registering players. This Monday (24), the celestial club settled the pending debt it had with Defensor, from Uruguay, regarding the debt for the hiring of midfielder Arrascaeta, in 2015. The legal representative of the Uruguayan club, Eduardo Carlezzo, confirmed the situation through of note.

“I confirm the existence of an agreement and payment on the part of Cruzeiro. On behalf of the Defensor I have just informed FIFA, requesting the cancellation of the transfer ban”, he shot to the press.

Arrascaeta was hired by Cruzeiro in January 2015. In June last year, the club was sentenced for not paying the debt to Uruguayans, which, at that time, was R$7 million.

The following month, the club was punished, again, for a new debt involving negotiation of athletes. Cruzeiro was ordered to pay R$5.85 million to Mazatlán, from Mexico, for the hiring of striker Riascos. Both negotiations were made during the administration of former president Gilvan de Pinho Tavares, in 2015.

The payment of Arrascaeta’s debt, however, does not completely free Cruzeiro from punishment in FIFA at this point, as the club still needs to settle the amounts with the Mexican club. In 2021, the two debts were around R$ 12 million. However, with the rise of the dollar and the euro, the two debts are currently around R$ 23 million.
