Now is the only time to restart.
Now, back to Hakone Road.
The Chuo Gakuin University Ekiden Club has been participating in the Hakone Ekiden for 18 consecutive years since acquiring the first seed right.
In recent years, the environment surrounding the competition has improved dramatically, and the level of competition has also risen.
It’s no longer an easy situation to break through the preliminaries.
Hakone Ekiden is a world where once you miss out on the main event, it is difficult to climb back up.
If he fails to participate in the next Hakone Ekiden 100th tournament, he will not participate for the second consecutive year.
From there it becomes very difficult to crawl back up again.
That’s whyI want to participate in the next Hakone Ekiden no matter what。
For the future of the ekiden club, and for the future of the athletes, now is the time to become stronger.
Therefore, I decided to challenge crowdfunding, which is my first attempt this time.
I want to deliver the voice of support from everyone in a way that the players can see.
We also want to quickly create a foundation that will allow the players to concentrate on their training.
Your support supports the athletes and strengthens the Chuo Gakuin University Ekiden Club.
We would like to ask for your warm donations and support for the young athletes who are practicing hard at this very moment.
Why try crowdfunding?
Turning the support from everyone into strength, I will return to the Hakone Road.
Thank you for visiting our page. My name is Yuji Kawasaki, and I am the director of the Ekiden team at Chuo Gakuin University in Abiko City, Chiba Prefecture. In 1985, he started working at the university and became the coach of the Ekiden team, and in 1992 he became the head coach.
In today’s university sports world, the Hakone Ekiden draws a lot of attention, especially at universities in the Kanto region.
Starting in 1920, the next tournament will be held 100 times, and we, Chuo Gakuin University, are a newly established school in the Heisei period. After winning the first seed right at the 79th tournament held in 2003, he participated in the main tournament for 18 consecutive years.I came.
Most recently, our steady efforts are beginning to bear fruit, such as the emergence of athletes who broke the conventional student record in the half marathon this year.
However, in recent years, due to the improvement in the level of each university aiming to participate in the main tournament and the dramatic improvement in the environment surrounding the competition, the competition for the right to participate has intensified, and it is not easy to break through the preliminary rounds. Until now, we have been able to move forward with originality and ingenuity within the environment we have been given, but this alone is no longer sufficient.
■ Major Activities (Chuo Gakuin University Ekiden Club)
・Hakone Ekiden (College Ekiden race between Tokyo and Hakone) for 18 consecutive years: 79th (2003) to 96th (2020) tournament
・All Japan University Ekiden (All Japan University Ekiden Championship) 10 years in a row: 45th (2013) to 54th (2022) Tournament
・FISU World University Games 2021/Chengdu Athletics Men’s Half Marathon Japan National Team (4th place individual, 3rd place group)
The Hakone Ekiden is a tough world where once you miss out on it, it becomes extremely difficult to climb back out of it.is.
Judging from the recent results of our school, if we miss out on participating in the next Hakone Ekiden, we will not participate for the second year in a row, and it will be extremely difficult for us to return to the position of a regular participating school.
That’s whyNow we need to make a leap to become a strong team that can participate in the Hakone Ekiden again.。
As long as there are athletes who want to run in the main race of the Hakone Ekiden and agree with the steady efforts of our university and have enrolled, I would like to survive in this harsh environment and face fierce competition.
Also, suchI want to deliver to the players in a visible way that there are everyone who agrees with my passion and supports me.With that in mind, I decided to take on the challenge of crowdfunding.
How the funds received from you will be used
In order to maximize the power of the players, the maintenance of the living environment.
There are 4 conditions that I think are important in leading a strong team aiming to participate in the Hakone Ekiden.
Mandatory conditions for participating in the Hakone Ekiden
① Securing excellent human resources
② Enhancement of facilities and equipment
③ Enhancement of human support for instructors and staff
④ Enhancing financial support for activity and operating expenses
Among them this time“(2) Enhancement of facilities and equipment”We would like to proceed with the improvement of
Since 1999, the student dormitory that currently supports the lives of the players has been operated as a rental dormitory.
Counting from the age of the building, it has been 30 years since the building was built, so not only have various expenses been burdened, but also the number of dormitory students has increased compared to the beginning of operation.
Eating, sleeping, and resting are important for training, and training won’t be as effective unless it’s well-balanced. For this reason, each university aiming for the Hakone Ekiden is preparing facilities for student dormitories.
Due to the current situation, competition is expected to intensify further, and in order to create an even more fulfilling practice environment for the players, the development of student dormitories has become an essential element for us in the future. .
With this background and other factors, the parent organization of this university,“Chuo Gakuin Educational Foundation 125th Anniversary Project”As part of this, a project to relocate and build a new student dormitory to a location adjacent to the university campus has been launched.
However, in the process of this project, we have been discussing with the government, etc., but the cost of construction has risen more than initially expected, and it is difficult for our university to handle everything. Therefore, we decided to take on the challenge of crowdfunding this time to help with the construction costs.
Target amount: 3,500,000 yen
■ Use of funds
・ Part of the relocation and new construction costs of the student dormitory where the players live together
・In particular, the funds will be allocated to facilities and equipment that are necessary in consideration of the characteristics of athletes who live in groups.
■ Schedule
Planning will begin in 2022, and after selecting a candidate site for construction and confirming various conditions related to construction, as of July 2023, a construction permit is being applied to Chiba Prefecture.
Once permission is granted, construction will begin from late October to November 2023, with completion scheduled for June 2024.
*Even if the total donation amount does not reach the target amount by the deadline, this project will always be carried out according to the above implementation details, such as by paying the target amount.

Future prospects
I want to use this as an opportunity to make a new leap forward.
We would like to use this student dormitory relocation and new construction project as an opportunity to make a new leap toward a restart.
Of course, I would like to return to the Hakone Road, but I would like to take on the challenge of acquiring seed rights as well as just “entering”. In the future, we will continue to train as many promising players as possible and send them out to the corporate team beyond university life.
In advance of this project,From February 2023, we have a new coach who will also be responsible for managing the student dormitories.。
An alumnus who contributed to the acquisition of the first seed right in the Hakone Ekiden main race and was also active in the corporate team after that, has the opportunity to return to his alma mater after some time and have the opportunity to instruct the younger generation. The slogan of the school’s 125th anniversary commemorative project, “Traditional Tradition Over the Century,” may be similar in some respects.
We would like to pass on the tradition of this Ekiden club to future generations together with everyone, as we are receiving donations for the relocation and new construction of the student dormitory. We look forward to your generous donations.
Yoshiaki Ohmura | Chuo Gakuin University President
It is possible to think that “university is a place to study, and classroom learning is the center of university life.” I think there are points that should be respected in this way of thinking, but is it really necessary to limit learning to classroom lectures?
For example, science experiments are learned through work, and although they are not classroom lectures, they are excellent academic practices. Furthermore, the same thing can be said in the fields of art and sports. For example, in order to achieve excellent results in an Ekiden, it is necessary to understand the strengths of one’s own team, analyze the strengths of other teams, and derive the optimal performance. I think that this is also a kind of study.
And by putting this study into practice over the course of four years, the members of the Ekiden Club acquire a variety of knowledge and thinking skills, and grow as individuals. I think that universities should place more importance on this kind of “ability to develop human resources in club activities.”
I would greatly appreciate it if everyone reading this article would understand and cooperate with our human resource development through Ekiden.
Mr. Kenji Suyama |Chuo Gakuin University Alumni Association President
The ekiden club practices hard every day to achieve team goals in the three major ekiden races for students. The sight of him running single-mindedly toward the goal on a single tasuki moves us.
The alumni association’s mission is not only to promote friendship among alumni, but also to appreciate the alma mater and create an environment in which many experiences can be used to open up dreams and futures together for the sake of juniors. I’m here.
In order to further deepen the history that everyone in the ekiden club has built, we alumni will join forces and support. We hope that your warm donations and cheers will help the Ekiden club members and bring about great results. Thank you very much.
Mr. Yasuhiro Hirai |Chairman of Chuo Gakuin University Support Association
The Chuo Gakuin University Supporters’ Association provides support in various ways so that students can lead a better university life. This time, as part of environmental improvement, crowdfunding will be implemented to rebuild the student dormitory of the Ekiden club.
Each person’s donation will lead to the vitality of the Ekiden club members. We would appreciate your kind donation and cooperation.
Ryosuke Fukuyama| Chuo Gakuin University Ekiden Club Coach
Thank you very much for your donations and support for the activities of the ekiden club. The current Ekiden club dormitory has been a rental dormitory since I was a student, and has been built for 32 years.
As a result, various expenses have increased and the number of dormitory students has increased compared to the beginning. Due to this situation, we are proceeding with a dormitory construction plan as an environmental improvement to prepare a support system for athletes.
In order to respond to everyone’s donations and support, we will make it through the Hakone Ekiden preliminaries in October and work hard as a team to compete in the 100th Hakone Ekiden. We would like to ask for your kind cooperation for the further development of the team.
