Nearly 200 people gathered this Wednesday, January 31, Place de la Victoire in Bordeaux at the end of the morning. Like almost everywhere in France, the social centers of Gironde had lowered the curtain or slowed down their welcome to demonstrate.

Fewer resources in the face of rampant precariousness

A mobilization to sound the alarm. “The future of social centers is in danger“, explains Anne Rochard, delegate to the Federation of Social Centers of Gironde. “We have suffered the full brunt of inflation and cuts in subsidies. Some social centers will have to make choices to get their cash flow back on track. Others could close their doors. It would be a real tragedy for the neighborhoods where we see precariousness taking hold more and more. For some, these places are landmarks.

The federations appeal to national but also departmental policies to revise the subsidies upwards and not see the 51 social centers and 61 Gironde social life spaces disappear.
