Baie-Saint-Paul Business Association Plans to Increase Community Presence and Member Engagement

The Baie-Saint-Paul Business Association is taking action and intends to take more of a place in the community. Its leaders want it to become “an essential community player”. This first involves reaching out to members and increasing their number. The return of Autumn Dreams is also in their plan.

“We want to carry out projects and make our members heard. We want to give ourselves time to reconnect with them. We haven’t been close enough to them over the last two years,” notes co-director Pierre Laurent Salin-de-L’Étoile.

A strategic planning exercise took place over a three-month period. Business people were able to participate to give their opinion.

During the presentation, we noted that the Association is involved in several projects, but that did not prevent it from losing around forty members while it had 140. The two employees will work to reverse this trend.

To do this, categories of members will be created. People who do not have a place of business in Baie-Saint-Paul will be able to contribute as voluntary members.

As for the organization of events, which is also part of his role, the deputy mayor Gaston Duchesne for his part requested the return of the Rêves d’Automne event, which was not ruled out. “We are going to review the calendar of events and it is not excluded that we repeat the event,” specifies Geneviève Marcotte, co-director and head of operations.

Multidisciplinary artist Ludovic Gervais, for his part, asked how the association could help small businesses on St-Jean-Baptiste Street, many of which are experiencing difficulties. “We want to get closer to you and better understand your issues,” replied Mr. Laurent.

This year, the Association wants to test “different approaches and prove themselves in order to regain the trust of its members”. “We want to continue to support and energize the community through events, which we already do. It’s difficult to implement things overnight. We want our actions to be relevant and in line with what our members want,” concludes Ms. Marcotte.

It will retain the mandate to organize the public market and the Baie-Saint-Paul Christmas market.
