The State Police has initiated criminal proceedings for the death of a mother and two children in an accident in Nīca region and calls on the eyewitnesses of the tragedy to respond, LETA was informed by the State Police at the Kurzeme Regional Office.
On June 27, around 4.50 pm, the police received information that a collision between an Opel car and a Volvo truck had taken place on the Liepāja-Rucava road in Nīca Parish.
Preliminary information suggests that the woman, while driving an Opel, entered the opposite lane where the truck collided for reasons not yet known.
The accident killed everyone in the Opel – a woman and her two young daughters.
The driver of a Volvo car was not injured in the accident and the man was not under the influence of alcohol.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated in the Liepāja district about the incident and information provided by eyewitnesses useful for the investigation.
In view of the above, the police invite anyone who can provide information relevant to the investigation to call 110.
A total of six people have already been reported killed in road accidents last weekend.
On June 20, a woman and a child died in an accident in Skriveri region, but five more people were seriously injured.
State police call to refer to the witnesses of the traffic accident
On June 27, at around 16:50, the State Police received information that a road traffic accident had occurred on the A11 motorway in Nīca municipality, Nīca parish. The accident was found to involve an Opel car and a Volvo truck. Preliminary information suggests that the woman was driving in the opposite lane in a collision with a Volvo while driving an Opel for reasons that have not yet been clarified.
