Piterāne said that thanks to lawyers, especially Saulvedis Vārpiņš and Oskars Rodems, he had managed to defend himself “against the repressive methods used by the security services”, namely, incitement to criminal proceedings and seizure of telephones. “I hope that no one else will have to experience anything like this. This is not a normal attitude towards public involvement in issues that are important to it,” Piterāne said.

Muksimov points out that he is satisfied that the criminal proceedings have been terminated, as there was no reason to start them. “We are going to read the case file to understand what investigative actions have been taken against us. We wrote applications in July to end the criminal proceedings against us, but our request was rejected on the pretext that investigative actions still need to be taken,” Muksimov said. It has already been reported that workers arrived in the territory of the former “Mars” bicycle track on August 31 and started sawing trees. The territory of the former bicycle track was prepared for the construction of the new building of the State Security Service (SSD).

In protest against the sawing of the trees, the defenders of the “Mars bicycle track” obstructed the traffic on Brīvības gatve. About 20 activists arrived at the scene, who slowly crossed Brīvības gatve on foot and by bicycle. Some activists limped or even crawled, lingering at the red light. This disrupted traffic. Protesters also tried to block the entry of vehicles into the area of the former bicycle track.

There have already been a number of incidents related to the construction of the building that have led to the initiation of criminal proceedings. In June, police accused three activists of hooliganism for entering the construction site of the VDD’s future building.

In April, it became known that the State Police had recognized Māris Kalēju (AP / P), a candidate for deputy of the Riga City Council at the time, as a suspect in damaging the fence of the construction site of the SES building.
