The Environment Minister announced on Wednesday that a criminal case has been opened, after the show’s team showed how the Chituc ridge, an area of strict protection, was destroyed with heavy machinery and how everything happens, under the nose of the institutions obliged to protect the Delta.
“The teams of the Ministry of Environment have found serious violations of the legislation,” the Minister of Environment, Tantzos Barna, also announced.
Paul Angelescu: “Grindul Chituc is one of the most beautiful areas in the Danube Delta, maybe in the whole of Romania. We documented in the video report how heavy trucks, bulldozers, excavators caused damage for tens of kilometers inside the beam. I showed how everything happens under the nose of the authorities who should have protected the Danube Delta and possibly with their complicity, because they chose to close their eyes. The Minister of Environment, after we broadcast the investigation, sent the Control Corps and contacted the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the police opened a criminal case. The equipment you saw should have been transported by water, by sea to the construction site. They were working on a Romanian water contract, but the builders chose to transport them by land, inside the ridge and thus violated the authorizations that forbade them to touch this protected area. “
