The announcement made by the Albany district attorney three days before the hearing for the former governor of the state of New York
Accused of inappropriate sexual acts and abuse (groping of women who depended on his office), in August Andrew Cuomo was forced to resign as governor of the state of New York, but he will not go to prison for the disputed crimes. The Westchester County Prosecutor’s Office had already given up on indicting him on the charge of an anonymous policewoman from his escort: groped on the backside in the elevator. Soon after, the Manhattan Prosecutor’s Office dismissed the state hospice case in which the death of many elderly people, during the first wave of the pandemic, had been attributed by Cuomo’s enemies to incorrect orders given by him in winter 2020.

The most insidious case remained, which also exploded suddenly, after the New York State Attorney, Letitia James, as democratic as the governor, had accused him of abusing even 11 women: Brittany Commisso, a girl of his staff, had filed a criminal complaint stating that a year earlier (in 2020) Cuomo had groped her on the breast in the governor’s house in Albany (state capital).

David Soares, Albany County District Attorney, has been investigating for months and yesterday claimed to not having enough evidence to indict the former governor (he faced a year in prison). Soares explained that the Commisso is credible, but cases of this type are difficult to prove and very often end in the acquittal of the accused. The prosecution, in fact, must prove not only the factbut also that the perpetrator wanted to satisfy a sexual desire or humiliate the victim.

For the culprits the prosecutors, instead of defending the weaker party, the women, they turned a blind eye to a politician who still has influential friends. But it must also be said that the case exploded under suspicious circumstances: in many photos Brittany appears in affectionate attitudes with Cuomo. His accusation came in the wake of James’ dossier (165 pages) that accuses Cuomo. And the prosecutor, after the governor’s resignation, ran for his succession (except, then, retire, a few days ago). And the Commisso’s complaint was collected by the county sheriff who bypassed Soares, the competent judicial authority, declaring that the elements to indict Cuomo were “very strong”.
