In 2018, images of an alleged new game in the Potter universe already leaked. That game is indeed under development, Bloomberg reports, and leaked video is authentic.
Players should be able to freely explore Hogwarts wizarding school and its surroundings. The game will be released late next year for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, among others. The game is made by Avalanche Software, a studio created in 2017 by Warner Bros. was acquired.
Writer JK Rowling is said to have “very little direct involvement” in the game. Still, Rowling’s recent statements bother the game’s developers, Bloomberg writes. They would also be concerned that the fuss is getting in the way of the game’s anticipation.

Rowling is under attack for statements about trans women. According to the writer, women born as men are not real women. Rowling claims not to be transphobic after criticism, but does not take back her statements.
The three protagonists of the Harry Potter films, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, have all distanced themselves from Rowling’s statements. Fellow writers also turn their backs on the Potter inventor.
