Covid vaccines: Government contemplates eliminating age restrictions – Government – Politics

Although on July 16 the Ministry of Health had ruled out opening the vaccination against him covid-19 to the entire population, this Wednesday the Executive revealed that it is contemplating that option.

This was announced by the director of the Administrative Department of the Presidency of the Republic (Dapre), Víctor Muñoz, who indicated that the Government is studying the possibility of lifting the age restrictions for immunization against the covid-19, but that you must first assess its viability.

“It is a measure that is being contemplated, is being reviewed depending on the biologicals and also depending on the scheduling and assistance of people to the vaccination process. But yeah, those are the points that are being reviewed right now, “he said.

The official assured that the initiative is already being implemented in about 600 municipalities that have less than 50,000 inhabitants, as the Health Ministry decided to unify the remaining phases of the National Vaccination Plan in these places.

Regarding the announcement of the Bogota Chamber of Commerce to stop the vaccination of private individuals (4,500 companies) with the agreement they had with this entity, he pointed out that “what was being reviewed is that they desisted from doing the purchase procedure since the vaccination speed On the part of the Government, it has been very efficient and they saw that if we are about to open the stage of over 30 years, it did not make much sense for them to invest those resources.

The official pointed out that today the country has bought 74 million doses “which allows us to exceed what was required for vaccination”, this does not include the doses of donation or private.

The Government also sent an invitation for all people who are in the priority age range for vaccination to attend immunization.

Muñoz added that once the goal of 35 million vaccinated Colombians is achieved, “we will be incorporating the numbers of pregnant women, children with comorbidities and we will be reaching a figure slightly higher than 37 million.”
