Covid-19: the prefect of Mbour advocates the involvement of community actors

Mbour, August 13 (APS) – The prefect of Mbour (west), Mor Talla Tine, insisted on Thursday on the “extremely important” role of community actors in the fight against covid-19 at a time when the number of cases confirmed by this disease continues to climb in this department.

“The number of cases continues to climb given the easing of restriction measures. We have enabled community actors to take ownership of the fight. It is clear that the State alone cannot come to the end of this pandemic. C ‘that is why we felt that the community level has an extremely important role to play, “he said in particular.

He spoke during a meeting of the Departmental Development Committee (CDD) extended, among others, to the Departmental Committee for the fight against epidemics (CDGE), to take stock of this disease and set up a departmental response plan against COVID-19.

As of this date, this department of the Thiès region has recorded 371 confirmed cases.

“We have noticed that the situation is worrying even if it is not hopeless”, reacted head of the departmental executive.

Mr. Tine, in this capacity, praised the “responsible decision” of the Departmental Organization for the Coordination of Vacation Activities (ODCAV) of Mbour to give up, this year, the organization of their sports activities.

The president of the ODCAV of Mbour, Pape Amar Mbodji, also pledged to “invest differently” to “help” the State in the fight against covid-19, by engaging each sports and cultural association (ASC ) to draw up a plan relying first on own resources.

“If others are inspired by this approach, we will be able to overcome this pandemic through a total and sincere community commitment,” the prefect added.

According to him, the neighborhood delegates have also made a commitment to bring together the forces of their respective localities in order to put in place response measures appropriate to their neighborhoods.

The Mbour ODCAV has 409 ASCs divided into 33 zones.
