COVID-19: Significant drop in active cases in Northern Ontario | Coronavirus: Ontario

The largest declines in active cases were reported by the Porcupine Health Unit (-30), Northwestern Health Unit (-13) and Algoma Public Health (-10).

The Porcupine Health Unit will also offer COVID-19 testing to clients and staff at the Living Space shelter in Timmins on Tuesday following an outbreak declared on April 27.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit (-6) now has fewer than 50 active cases.

The North Bay-Parry Sound District Health Unit (+2) and Sudbury & Districts Public Health (+1) saw a slight increase in active cases.

Public Health Sudbury and Districts has announced a 28th death related to COVID-19 in its territory.

A total of 133 residents of Northern Ontario have died from COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.

The number of new weekly cases has been declining for a few weeks in northern Ontario, after a peak of 627 cases in the week of March 7 to 13.

In a statement, Sudbury & Districts Public Health and the Ontario Provincial Police remind area residents of the importance of following health measures.
