Covid-19. Portugal with 1,263 deaths and 29,660 confirmed cases – O Jornal Económico

Portugal has a total of 29,660 confirmed cases of Covid-19, 228 more than the previous day, reveals the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health released this Wednesday, May 20th. The number of fatalities from the new coronavirus in the country increased to 1,263, which corresponds to another 16 deaths in the last 24 hours.

The epidemiological bulletin released this morning indicates that, to date, 301,225 suspected cases have been recorded and 2,405 people are still awaiting the results of Covid-19’s laboratory tests. There are currently 269,160 unconfirmed cases after the analyzes, and 25,281 are under surveillance by health authorities.

DGS reveals that there are currently 16,488 cases registered in the North, 3,655 in the Center, 8,688 in Lisbon, 356 in the Algarve, 135 cases in the Autonomous Region of the Azores, 90 in the Autonomous Region of Madeira and 248 cases in the Alentejo.

Of the total of 1,263 deaths, 713 were in the North, 230 in the Center, 289 in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, 15 in the Algarve, 15 in the Azores, one in the Alentejo, with none registered in Madeira.

The DGS bulletin counts one male fatal victim between 20 and 29 years old, six female fatal victims and seven male victims between the age of 40 and 49 years old. There were 28 male and 12 female victims in the age group from 50 to 59, 75 victims between 60 and 69 male and 38 female, 144 male deaths and 102 female deaths between 70 and 79 years. There are also 362 male victims and 488 female victims over 80 years of age.

There are currently 609 hospitalized patients, 93 of whom are in Intensive Care Units (ICU) and 6,452 recovered cases in Portugal, an increase of 21 cases compared to the report released yesterday.

Lisbon is the municipality with the most confirmed cases, totaling 2,046, followed by Vila Nova de Gaia with 1,521 and Porto with 1,334. Matosinhos with 1,245, Braga with 1,196 and Gondomar with 1,065. Maia with 916, Sintra with 899, Valongo with 751 and Ovar with 646.

Guimarães also saw an increase in cases, currently having 695, while Coimbra has 572 and Loures has 678. Amadora has 568, Cascais has 483 and Santa Maria da Feira has 468 confirmed cases. The number of imported cases was 770.

The age group with the most confirmed cases is 40 to 49 years old (2,034 men and 2,971 women), with a total of 5,005, followed by the 50-59 years old (1,985 men and 3,014 women), in a total of 4,999. There are 1,480 infected children and adolescents between 0 and 19 years of age. There are currently 12,333 men and 17,327 women infected with the new coronavirus.

The number of cases in the age groups between 30 and 39 years and 60 and 69 years has seen increases. The DGS bulletin assumes the existence of 1,884 men and 2,480 women infected between the ages of 30 and 39, and 1,526 men and 1,769 women with confirmed cases between the ages of 60 and 69. There are currently 2,959 women over the age of 80 infected with Covid-19.

The age group between 20 and 29 years of age has also seen a considerable increase in positive cases, with 1,639 men and 2,068 women with positive cases to date. The age group between 70 and 79 years old checks 1,142 men and 2,959 infected women.

In relation to symptoms, the most reported are coughing (41%), fever (29%), muscle pain (21%), headache (19%), generalized weakness (15%) and breathing difficulties (12%).
