COVID-19: Peru received more than 7.4 million vaccines during the last week

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported that, during this last week, Peru has received a total of 7,472,420 doses of the vaccine against COVID-19 from the Pfizer, Sinopharm and AstraZeneca laboratories, which has made it possible to close the national vaccination gaps.

From Jorge Chávez International Airport, Augusto Tarazona, Vice Minister of Benefits and Health Insurance, oversaw the arrival of 1,914,650 doses of Sinopharm today. These vaccines arrived in the country at 4:45 pm, closing the week with a significant amount of biologicals received.

“These vaccines will allow us to expand the coverage of vaccination, because we need to have more people protected. To date, we have about 15 million vaccinated with two doses, which is equivalent to 53% of the target population “, he indicated after specifying that this new batch will be distributed in a” homogeneous “way to reach urban areas – he said. and rural areas of the country.

Vice Minister Augusto Tarazona highlighted the commitment of young people during the immunization days. “The last few weeks have been ‘Vaccine Rock’ for young people and we will also continue with ‘Vacuna Power’. Young people are actively participating in vaccination and they are attending en masse ”, he said.

On the other hand, he stated that the Ministry of Health has been meeting with representatives of public and private universities to define the protocol for returning to face-to-face classes and that the document will be approved in the coming weeks.

MORE THAN 7 MILLION DOSES

The shipment of vaccines that arrived in Peru this afternoon adds to the 2 million 387 thousand 600 doses that arrived on Saturday 23 and the batch of one million 908 thousand 100 drugs that arrived on Friday, October 22, both from the same Chinese laboratory. That same day, a donation from the Spanish Government of 79,200 doses was also received from the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca, through the Covax Facility mechanism.

As for the vaccines received from the Pfizer firm, this week a total of one million 182 thousand 870 doses arrived. This amount arrived in the country on three different days: Monday 18 (702 thousand), Wednesday 20 (340 thousand 470) and Thursday 21 October (140 thousand 400).

According to the Single National Repository of Health Information (Reunis) of the Minsa, until 08:00 hours on October 24, in Peru a total of 33 437 923 doses have been applied, of which 14 842 930 correspond to the second dose, which represents 53% of the target population to be vaccinated.
