Covid-19 outbreak at the Lisbon IPO placed more than 70 professionals in quarantine – Executive Digest

Since the beginning of the pandemic until this week, the Portuguese Institute of Oncology (IPO) in Lisbon registers 103 cases of Covid-19, advances the “Diário de Notícias” (DN).

According to the “DN”, there are a total of 47 professionals, 16 external service providers and 40 patients. In addition, 70 professionals have been in preventive quarantine since the hematology service outbreak.

This situation is putting pressure on services. Most positive professionals, as well as in preventive quarantine, are nurses. In addition, there are professionals already on vacation. All of this, says the “DN”, is forcing a change in the scales and the transfer of these to other services with a lack of personnel, namely hematology.

According to what the “DN” found, the Lisbon IPO had to go find nurses who already had some experience in hematology from services such as medical surgery and others, since the outbreak of the new coronavirus in the service was detected two weeks ago. This outbreak, it is recalled, resulted in the infection of 13 professionals and 17 patients.

At this moment, Portugal already counts a total of 1,564 fatalities associated with the new coronavirus and 41,646 confirmed cases of infection, since the beginning of the pandemic in the country, according to data from the Directorate-General for Health.
