Tanzanian state medical providers on Friday delivered 300 oxygen cylinders to Bugando hospital, a major hospital in the northern Mwanza region, amid a peak in COVID patients -19 has been reported.

Fabian Massaga, director of Bugando hospital, said the 300 oxygen cylinders were provided by the state medical supplies department after the hospital faced a severe shortage of oxygen cylinders due to the growing number of patients with respiratory complications and COVID-19.

“We admit these types of patients every day,” said Massaga, who did not disclose the number of patients with respiratory complications and COVID-19 admitted to hospital.

“The supply of oxygen cylinders will help alleviate the shortage we are facing,” Massaga said, adding that before the supply, the hospital only had 100 cylinders.

Following the shortage of oxygen cylinders, Mr. Massaga appealed to benefactors earlier this week to donate these cylinders to the hospital.

The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, on Wednesday claimed that the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic hit the East African nation, mainly in the regions of Mwanza, Dar es Salaam , Arusha, Kagera and Dodoma.
