Covid-19 in Gabon: Full update on the situation on Saturday April 4, 2020 with still 21 positive cases, one death, a cure and 250 tests in progress

The vice-president and spokesperson of the Covid-19 Risk Committee in Gabon, Dr. Guy-Patrick Obiang Ndong @ DR

The Gabonese health authorities have set up a daily, complete, precise and updated information point on the evolution of the presence of coronavirus (Covid-19). This is done every day at the end of the afternoon by Dr Guy-Patrick Obiang Ndong, Secretary General of the Ministry of Health, at the head of the Steering Committee for the watch and response plan against the epidemic of Coronavirus in Gabon. An exercise in transparency, rare in Africa, which helps to dissipate false information and make room for malicious and irresponsible comments that abound on social networks. Here is the one for Saturday April 4.

Epidemiological situation

Twenty-one (21) reported cases, one (1) death and one (1) cure: such are the statistical data on the covid-19 epidemic in Gabon. More than two hundred and fifty (250) tests are being analyzed. These are mainly samples from contact cases and new suspected cases.

Health status of Covid-19 positive patients

The eighteen (18) covid-19 patients currently hospitalized at Akanda Army Training Hospital (HIAA) are in stable clinical condition with symptom regression. It is the same for our compatriot who is taken care of at the medical center of Bitam by the joint public health and military health team.

Vaccination debate in Africa

Regarding the debate on the vaccination project in Africa, Gabon is not associated with it, has never been contacted and will decline any possible offer going in the direction of vaccine trial.

Convictions of acts of incivism

We have noticed a growing phenomenon for some time, it is the publication of the names of certain infected people in social networks. People infected with Covid-19 should not be discriminated against or stigmatized. These people did not ask to be sick and showed courage by calling 1410 for testing. We therefore condemn these acts of incivism.

Limitation of non-essential movements

Before closing, I would once again urge the population to respect the measure on limiting non-essential outings and gatherings of more than ten (10) people. We can slow down or even avoid the drama that we follow live on our television channels if we apply the barrier gestures.
