Covid-19: Food kits for 3000 drivers at the Baux maraîchers bus station

Pikine, July 16 (APS) – The Minister of Infrastructure, Land Transport and Opening up, Oumar Youm on Thursday afternoon handed out food kits to distribute to 3000 drivers as part of government support for people affected by the new coronavirus (Covid-19).

” We came in this context of the fight against the Covid-19 to show our solidarity with the actors, particularly the drivers, today numbering 3000 for Dakar, who will each receive a food kit of 66,000 CFA or the equivalent of 200 million CFA out of an envelope of 1 billion CFA which will concern 14,400 drivers in Senegal, ” he said at the end of the ceremony of handing over the kits at the bus station in Les Baux Maraîchers.

According to the distribution, each beneficiary will receive two bags of rice of 50 kg, two cans of 10 liters of oil, a carton of 18 pieces of soap, a bag of 10 kg of food legs, for a total value of CFAF 66,000.

“This is an important decisive support from the head of state to the driver community after the compensatory measures that have been taken for the benefit of other transport players,” said Oumar Youm.

The Minister of Infrastructure, Land Transport and Opening up praised the “dignity” of actors in the land transport sector, magnifying their “patriotism” in this context of the global pandemic.

You showed dignity and patriotism in this context of Covid-19. We congratulate you on your commitment to the response to the pandemic, ” he said to drivers, apprentices and other players in the sector who came in large numbers to attend the government aid distribution ceremony.

Oumar Youm reminded transporters that the fight against the disease must continue, paying particular attention to compliance with the barrier measures, “in rigor and discipline”.

He recalled the government’s desire to modernize the road transport sector before inviting the various players to maintain the country’s bus stations, including that of Les Baux Maraîchers which, according to him, “is the most prestigious in the sub-region”.
