Covid-19: chronically ill people will be vaccinated against seasonal flu

Khalid Ait Taleb, Minister of Health

Moroccan hospitals will be supplied with influenza and anti-pneumococcal vaccines during next fall, Health Minister Khalid Ait Taleb announced on Saturday.

While waiting for a safe and effective anti-Covid-19 vaccine, the Ministry of Health has decided to conduct a vaccination campaign against seasonal influenza and pneumococcal infections, for the benefit of people suffering from chronic diseases in order to strengthen their immunity, stressed Aid Taleb during a webinar organized under the theme “Covid-19, Flu, HPV and pneumococcus: importance of vaccination, what recommendations? “.

In this context, the Minister emphasized the severity of the seasonal flu for vulnerable populations, including the elderly, pregnant women, infants and people with serious illnesses, while noting that the flu vaccine seasonal is not effective against Covid-19.

However, this is a preventive scenario that will be put in place alongside the preventive measures already in force, he noted.

The government official recalled that each year, between 250,000 and 650,000 people die from seasonal flu around the world, adding that it affects 3 to 5 million people per year across the planet.
