NEW DELHI – India reported more than 17,000 cases of corona virus in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number to more than 500,000.

Corona virus infection is increasing in major cities including the capital of New Delhi. India has the fourth largest case in the world, under the United States (US), Brazil and Russia.

Infection is expected to continue to increase in India. Experts called on the federal government to prioritize reducing the death toll rather than preventing the spread of the virus.

“Our focus must be to prevent casualties and not despair because of the number. The number continues to grow, “said Dr Manoj Murhekar, member of the Indian corona virus task force and director of the National Epidemiology Institute.

The COV-IND-19 study group led by Bhramar Mukherjee, professor of biostatistics at the University of Michigan, estimates that India could experience between 770,000 and 925,000 cases on July 15.

As infections escalate and hospitals are overwhelmed, cities like New Delhi are trying to build temporary facilities with thousands of beds to quarantine and treat Covid-19 patients.

The city of New Delhi with 20 million people only has 13,200 beds for Covid-19’s presidential candidate and will add around 20,000 in the coming weeks. A number of facilities are managed by military doctors and paramilitaries.

Limited staff appear to be a concern as hospitals begin to be overwhelmed with patients and more facilities are being opened. (See Infographics: O Enoki Mushroom Enthusiasts, Beware … !!)

“We have to guarantee that those who really need treatment are not rejected,” said Dr. Giridhar R Babu, epidemiologist at the Indian Public Health Foundation in Karnataka. (Watch Video: Two British Clubs Occupy the Throne of the World’s Richest Football Club, This is Analyst Analysis)
