Biden is expanding its lead in Georgia and making it increasingly difficult for Trump

Georgia, North Carolina and Alaska. Those are the three states that the American news agency AP has not yet ‘called’. In other words: no winner has yet been designated in those states. According to other media, Arizona also belongs in that list. So in Georgia Biden is ahead, in North Carolina and Alaska Trump will almost certainly win.

It is not yet clear when Georgia will be finished. But if Biden wins, his lead is very big. On the basis of AP, that would mean that Biden wins 306 electors, exactly the same amount as Trump did four years ago. 270 are needed to become president.

Calculation

The Democrat is now at 290. Those extra 16 electors can make quite a difference. That’s like this: with 306 electors, Biden has 36 more than necessary. The main states where the result was not clear for the longest time were Pennyslvania (20 electors) and Nevada (6 electors). Georgia is therefore worth 16 electors.

If Trump decides to challenge certain results, it must be very good for him. Because even if Biden were to lose two of those important states above to Trump, Biden would still retain 270 electors anyway.

Whether Biden will actually get those 16 electoral votes from Georgia remains to be seen. Because the difference between the two candidates is only 0.2 percent. If it stays that way, there will be an automatic recount in Georgia.
