Covid-19. Brazilian volunteer died in tests for the Oxford vaccine. He was 28 years old and was a newly graduated doctor

The Brazilian health authorities announced this Wednesday that a citizen of the country who volunteered to test the vaccine that is being developed by the University of Oxford and the AstraZeneca laboratory died.

The deadly victim of the Oxford vaccine tests was João Pedro Feitosa, a 28-year-old recent doctor who lived in Rio de Janeiro.

The AstraZeneca laboratory has so far declined to comment on the matter, nor did it even say whether the Brazilian volunteer had taken an immunizer or placebo in the context of the Oxford vaccine tests.

According to the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa), the investigation into this case will continue, but the Brazilian body has not yet given further details, evoking questions of medical confidentiality regarding the people involved in the tests.

The University of Oxford confirmed its plan to continue testing the covid-19 vaccine and, according to a source linked to Reuters, the test would be suspended if the volunteer who died had received the covid-19 vaccine. According to the agency, “the person was part of a control group that had been given the vaccine for meningitis”.
