GORINCHEM More than 8,000 new corona cases are still being added every day, but the speed at which the number of new reports is increasing seems to be slowing down slightly. This could be a result of the measures that took effect at the end of September. Next week we can see if this trend continues.
Last week, the number of reports of Covid-19, the number of patients in the hospitals and the number increased IC intensive care admissions continue. In Gorinchem, 183 new cases of infection were identified in the past two weeks and no COVID-19 infected persons were admitted to hospital.
In the past week, RIVM received 55,587 new reports of COVID-19, an increase of almost 12,000 (27%) compared to the previous week. There was an increase in the number of people who tested positive in all age groups. However, the difference between the number of reports in younger and older age groups is narrowing.
ALWAYS MORE HOSPITAL RECORDINGS The number of hospital admissions continues to rise unchanged. Reported last week NICE foundation 1492 new admissions related to COVID-19 in the nursing wards and 287 new admissions to intensive care (last week 192).
The number by the GGD Municipal Health Service reported deaths from COVID-19 concern 185 this week (last week 150). More than 9 in 10 of the people who died in the past week were 70 or older. Last week 150 more people died than expected on the basis of previous years (excess mortality) and the week before there were 200 more deaths (figure 2). It CBS Central Bureau of Statistics reported this Friday in a news report about excess mortality.
MORE PERSONS TESTED, MORE POSITIVE From 6 – 18 October 311,188 people were tested in the GGD test streets, which is more than 30,000 people more than in the previous week. The results are known for 269,753 people. Of this group, 38,859 tested positive. The percentage of positive tests thus rose to 14.4%. This percentage increased in all regions. In some GGD regions, as many as 1 in 5 people tested positive for COVID-19. The highest percentages were found in GGD regions of Rotterdam-Rijnmond, Twente, Zaanstreek-Waterland. It is therefore important to get tested and not to assume that it is only an ‘autumn cough’ or ‘autumn cold’ if you have complaints that match COVID-19.
REPRODUCTION NUMBER R DOES NOT DECREASE The reproduction number is 1.22 (lower limit: 1.19, upper limit: 1.25). This is hardly lower than a few weeks ago, and the confidence interval is still completely above 1. The reproduction number of 1.22 means that 100 people with COVID-19 together infect 122 other people with the virus.
The number of infectious persons is now at 127,000 (with a lower limit of over 91,000 and an upper limit of almost 162,000.
